Updating an item (versions)

Improved a library? Fixed a texture? You don't edit the file in place — you ship a new version. Every version is a separate download, so people who already bought or downloaded your item keep the exact file they have and simply get told an update is available.

Every update is a new version

Your first upload is version 1.0. Each time you improve the item, you publish another version (1.1, 2.0 — you choose the number). Nothing you publish ever overwrites an older version: each one is stored separately, so a buyer's existing download is never disturbed.

You can only add versions to an item that's already live. A draft or rejected item is still edited through the normal upload wizard.

Shipping an update

From your Dashboard → your item → New version:

1. Upload the new .zip (or .moz).
2. Give it a version number and a changelog — a short note of what changed. The changelog is required and buyers see it, so write something useful ("Added 30" sink base; fixed hinge bore depth").
3. Publish.

Every update runs the same checks as your first upload — virus scan, allowed file types, and the README requirement. If your new archive is missing a README with install and use instructions, it's blocked, exactly like a first upload. (Include the README in every version's zip.)

What happens after you publish

It depends on your seller standing — the same rule as your initial uploads:

• Trusted sellers (3+ approved items and no strikes) — your new version goes live immediately, and buyers are notified right away.
• Everyone else — your new version passes the automated checks and then waits for a moderator to approve it. This is quick, and it's the same review your first item goes through.

Either way, your item stays live the whole time. While a new version is waiting for review, buyers keep downloading the current approved version — nothing is pulled off sale.

Buyers keep what they have

• Anyone who owns the item sees an "Update available" badge in their library and can grab the new version whenever they want.
• People who downloaded an older version still have that file — updating never breaks their copy.
• Free or paid, it works the same way: owners get your updates.

Version numbers

There are no strict rules — a version is just a short label (letters, numbers, dots and dashes, up to 32 characters) that's unique for that item. Use whatever scheme makes sense to you; most sellers use simple numbers like 1.0, 1.1, 2.0. You can't reuse a number you've already published for that item.

If an update has a problem

If a moderator finds an issue, the version is rejected with a reason — your live item is unaffected, and you just fix the archive and publish a corrected version. Because old versions are kept, there's no way to "roll back" a bad release by deleting it; the fix is always to ship a new, better version, which then becomes the one everyone gets.
